Notable Designers Set to Lead Weeklong Construction that Kicks Off in Eight Days

“Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” is pleased to announce the design team for the upcoming Nashville Build which will begin on September 11. Well-known designers Ty Pennington, Paul DiMeo and Tracy Hutson will be joined this season by Leigh Anne Tuohy, interior designer and subject of the nationally acclaimed movie “The Blind Side.” With the help of LP Building Products and HARDAWAY Construction Corp., the Extreme Makeover design team will join with local businesses and volunteers to help make a difference in Nashville.

As the host of Extreme Makeover, Ty Pennington will bring his interior design and carpentry skills to the table to lead the latest Extreme Makeover project, affectionately being called The Nashville Build. Under Ty’s leadership, the show itself has earned two Emmys and two People’s Choice Awards and has helped families across the country.

Well-known designers Paul DiMeo and Tracy Hutson will be joining Ty for The Nashville Build. For Paul, renovation hits close to home. When he was only five years old, his family home burned to the ground. His deep understanding of family hardship makes him a perfect fit for the design team. A devoted mother of two, Tracy has been a designer and stylist since 1999, originally joining the Extreme Makeover team in 2003.

New to the show, Leigh Anne Tuohy is no novice when it comes to interior design. Leigh Anne holds a bachelor’s degree in interior design from the University of Mississippi and owns and runs a design firm with her mother. The subject of the bestselling book and major motion picture “The Blind Side,” Leigh Anne believes that giving back is just a way of life.

Extreme Volunteers Wanted to Show Nashville’s Giving Spirit to the World

For eight years, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition has rebuilt houses and transformed people’s lives from coast to coast. Now, the popular ABC show is coming to Nashville to do the same thing — but with a twist. But the twist, the start date for the project and really any details at all about the build have not yet been revealed. What is known is that the project is flood-related and will require thousands of man-hours to complete. Therefore, the show’s organizers are in desperate need of donations and volunteers.

A pep rally to kick off Extreme Makeover: Home Edition’s Nashville build is set for 10 a.m. Friday at Belmont University’s Curb Event Center to round up volunteers, generate excitement and share more information.

“The way to think about it is, the theme of Extreme Makeover this season is ‘Extreme like you’ve never seen before,’ ” said Rick S. Olszewski of LP Building Products, whose company is one of three Nashville businesses taking the lead on the local build. “The projects have taken on a much bigger scope. It’s going to take hundreds of volunteers and skilled craftsman and tradespeople to make this happen.”

Stan Hardaway, whose company, Hardaway Construction Corp., is another leader on the project, along with DA|AD Group, said that right now the team is most in need of skilled craftsmen and carpenters. As the build progresses, the team’s volunteer needs will be updated on its website, thenashvillebuild.com.

Hardaway emphasized that the project will be difficult to pull off, given its large scope and short timeframe, but added that construction people love a good challenge. The construction companies plan to work around the clock for six days to ensure completion. Ordinarily, he said, a project of this scale would take six or seven months.

“There isn’t a bigger challenge than building a project like this, because one hour in this six-day period is equal to one day in a regular construction schedule,” he said. “So, 24 hours is equivalent to 24 days. When you start thinking about how challenging that is — to bring something like that together and get it done that quick — part of it scares you, but the other part of it excites you.”

The project organizers hope the community pulls together to support the local Extreme Makeover effort, just as it did in the aftermath of the May floods. They say the program is a national platform to showcase Middle Tennessee residents’ volunteer spirit and resolve to take care of their neighbors.

“Think back to May, and how we felt like, ‘We didn’t get any national attention — so what?’ ” Olszewski said. “We took care of ourselves. And this is another opportunity for the Nashville community to show how Nashville responds when someone in Nashville needs help. (People) know the premise of the show, and they know something really, really good is going to come out of it.”

The episode will air on ABC before the end of the year.

Lady Antebellum Added to “Stand Up to Cancer” Line-Up

Lady Antebellum will join artists from around the entertainment industry for the Stand Up to Cancer program in an effort to raise funds and awareness for cancer research. Lady Antebellum joins the line-up, including stars such as George Clooney, Gwyneth Paltrow, Denzel Washington, Reese Witherspoon, Kris Kristofferson, Martina McBride and Neil Diamond.

As previously mentioned, the one-hour special which will be held on September 10, will be broadcast live and commercial-free on ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, Bio, Discovery Health, E!, G4, HBO, HBO Latino, MLB Network, mun2, Showtime, Smithsonian Channel, the Style Network, TV One and VH1. The 2008 Stand Up to Cancer concert raised more than $100 million for cancer research.

Brad Paisley to Play Free Show for Gulf

Tim McGraw to Receive Award for Fundraising Efforts

Tim McGraw will accept an award in October for his fundraising efforts with his wife, Faith Hill, on behalf of battered women’s shelters in Tennessee. The True Ally Award will be presented to McGraw at the 2010 Men Stopping Violence annual awards dinner in Atlanta on Oct. 2. The dinner recognizes men who have dedicated time and resources to fostering safety and justice for women, according to the organization’s press materials. The dinner is the organization’s primary annual fundraiser.

Vince Gill Set to Headline Free Concert For Gulf

Vince Gill will headline a free outdoor “Back to the Beach” concert Saturday, Sept. 25, from the beautiful Beaches of South Walton along Florida’s Northwest Gulf Coast. The free outdoor concert will be held at the award-winning The Links Golf Course driving range at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort. Gates will open at 4 p.m.and the concert will begin at 6 p.m.

“We’re showing thanks to our visitors and residents with the opportunity to experience the musical talents of legendary Vince Gill,” said Dawn Moliterno, executive director of the Beaches of South Walton TDC. “We hope this will entice those who have never been to our destination with an added incentive to come and see our beautiful beaches and communities, as well as welcome back our loyal visitors who may not have made it here this summer.”

Martina to Participate in “Stand Up to Cancer” Concert

Martina McBride will join artists from around the entertainment industry for the Stand Up to Cancer program in an effort to raise funds and awareness for cancer research. Jake Owen Announces Hometown Benefit Concert

Jake Owen will once again take the stage for the Jake Owen Concert, which is a feature of the annual Mardy’s Tennis & Jake’s Music Fest to benefit the Mardy Fish Foundation. This years event will be held at Holman Stadium in Vero Beach, FL on Friday, December 10, 2010. Owen, a RCA Nashville recording artist, sold-out the previous four years of concerts during Mardy’s Tennis & Jake’s Music Fest, which has prompted a move to the larger, outdoor Holman Stadium to better accommodate the growing support from Vero Beach community and neighboring areas. Taylor Donates $100k to Rebuild Playground

Taylor Swift recently donated $100,000 toward the city of Hendersonville’s efforts to rebuild Kids Kingdom, Mayor Scott Foster announced Tuesday.

The $100,000 donation from the Taylor Swift Charitable Fund had been discussed earlier in the evening when the city’s finance committee members voted to send an ordinance accepting the money to the full board. Board members are expected to vote on the ordinance at the next Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting on Sept. 14.

According to Parks Director Dave LeMarbre, Swift made the donation to help the city with its flood relief efforts. Although the 13-year-old children’s playground had been underwater several times over the years, it wasn’t destroyed by the historic flood that hit the city May 1-2. Had it been damaged more, the city might have received insurance money for the damage, LeMarbre noted. He said Swift’s business manager suggested the money go toward Kids Kingdom and refurbishing the city’s volleyball courts.

“It’s overwhelming,” LeMarbre said. “We didn’t expect that. We appreciate Taylor’s donation as well as all the others who have stepped up.”

This isn’t the first time Hendersonville residents have been the beneficiaries of Swift’s generosity. On her birthday in December she donated $250,000 to schools she had attended across the country. Ellis Middle and Hendersonville High Schools received money as well as John Paul II High School, where her brother Austin is a recent graduate.

Swift also donated $500,000 to flood relief efforts in Nashville back in May of this year.

Country Comes Home: Grand Ole Opry Announces Sept. 28 Re-opening of Opry House

Grand Ole Opry officials today announced that the show, displaced from its permanent home due to May’s historic Nashville flood, will return to the Grand Ole Opry House with a star-packed show Tues., Sept. 28. Among the artists scheduled for the show are Trace Adkins, Jason Aldean, Dierks Bentley, Charlie Daniels Band, Diamond Rio, Jimmy Dickens, Del McCoury Band, Montgomery Gentry, Brad Paisley, Blake Shelton, Mel Tillis, and Josh Turner. The show will air live on GAC: Great American Country. Special events and artist appearances will follow throughout October in celebration of both the show’s return and its 85th Birthday.

The announcement came just before the Opry House’s signature element, a six-foot circle of oak wood taken from the historic Ryman Auditorium when the show moved to the Grand Ole Opry House in 1974, was returned this morning to its home center stage at the Opry House. The circle, along with the full Opry stage, had been covered by 46 inches of water during May’s flood. Rescued immediately after waters receded from the Opry House, the circle has been painstakingly refurbished. The country music treasure was placed in its rightful spot with assistance from Dickens and Paisley. The two Opry members then took to the circle behind an Opry microphone stand for an acoustic performance of the country classic “Will the Circle be Unbroken.”

“It is the best feeling in the world to see our beloved circle back home,” said Grand Ole Opry Group President Steve Buchanan. “We can not wait for the curtain to go up as we launch a new chapter in the Opry’s history on September 28, just in time to celebrate our 85th birthday. There is no doubt the next two months are going to be some of the most memorable and emotional ever for our performers and fans.”

“It is as it should be,” said Paisley. “That circle means the world to all of us who love country music. I’ve always said that the circle still contains the dust from Hank Williams’ cowboy boots. Well now it contains that dust, but also the heart and soul of this town and all the people who have worked to rise above this spring’s floods. I know I speak for all my fellow Opry members when I say, ‘we are so excited to come home!’”

The Opry has not missed a single show since the flood, broadcasting from several Nashville venues including former Opry homes the Ryman Auditorium and the War Memorial Auditorium. In addition to its Sept. 28 return to the Opry House, plans were announced for the celebration to continue with October shows and special events surrounding the show’s 85th Birthday. Among the highlights:

–Spirit of Nashville Day Oct. 2:
The Opry will celebrate Nashville’s spirit and resilience since the flood by inviting its hometown to get an up-close look at the newly renovated Opry House during a full day of free tours five months to the day following the flood. There will be much to see, including a new artist entrance area, 18 uniquely-themed dressing rooms, and more, including the famed circle of wood center stage. The Nashville celebration will spill into the Opry Plaza with free music throughout the day, including a performance by hit-making new group The Band Perry.

–85th Birthday Bash Oct. 8 and 9:
Three weekend shows, backstage tours, an afternoon salute to country comedy show featuring Mike Snider with T. Bubba Bechtol, and all-day fun in the Opry Plaza including a free Opry Plaza Party.

–Be Our Guest:
The Opry has for years welcomed famous fans from all walks of life to its stage, including every U.S. President from Richard Nixon through George W. Bush. In celebration of the Opry’s 85th, celebrities will appear as guest announcers while the show will also launch an “I’m With The Band” series, featuring personalities from outside the country world who have an interest in music to sit in with the Opry band for a song on country music’s most revered stage. Among those scheduled to visit are Oscar-winner Kevin Costner and actress Kimberly Williams-Paisley.

The Grand Ole Opry announced their grand re-opening this morning in a press conference held to place the history circle back in place. Charlie Daniels Announces “Christmas 4 Kids” Lineup

Charlie Daniels has announced the lineup for his “2010 Charlie Daniels Band & Friends Concert,” which will include Montgomery Gentry, Jake Owen and Sawyer Brown.The concert, which is set to take place November 22, at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville will benefit the Christmas 4 Kids organization.

Christmas 4 Kids is a not-for-profit organization that has been in existence for over 25 years providing many children, each year, with their very own shopping spree. The funds generated by the concert, and the “Tour Bus Show/Artist Meet and Greet” event are used to give children from 29 different schools, a total of more than 400 children, a day-long shopping excursion.
