Fans and artists gathered last week in Nashville’s Listening Room to attend Songs for a Cure. The even took place on January 28, 2010, almost 4 years after Savannah was originally diagnosed with cancer. Savannah suffers from Stage IV metastatic Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma (Rhabdo for short). This is a very rare & aggressive type of childhood cancer. She was initially diagnosed at age 5 on Feb. 2, 2006. This is her third round battling this horrible disease. Artists & fans alike rallied to raise money for this little girl. Performers for the event included Keith Anderson, Mark Wills, Julie Roberts, Brian White, & more! A fan correspondant, Kelly Tilloston captured footage from the event & allowed us to share it with you!

  • Carrie Underwood Focuses On Our “Temporary Home”

Carrie Underwood has won nearly every award possible, her most recent being her 5th Grammy. These accomplishments are meaningful, but her latest single reminds us that this world is “just a stop on the way to where we’re going.” The powerful lyrics of this co-written song match perfectly with the video. If you cried when merely listening to the song, you’ll certainly need a box of Kleenex for the video! The message of “Temporary Home” was inspired while Carrie was reading the award winning “Purpose Drive Life.” The initial segment of the video features a boy who has been shuffled from foster home to foster home. The second segment features a mother and daughter struggling to make ends meet in the current economic state. The final segment features Carrie playing the part of a woman spending the last precious moments with a dying loved one. If you already found yourself with a few tears trickling down your face, be prepared for a complete waterfall during the final segment! This video is the epitimy of what we love about country music. It tells a story, tugs on your heart strings, and leaves you feeling uplifted. Don’t let the tears fool you, this is supposed to be a postive song that reminds us that the things of this “Temporary Home” will pass.

You can view the video here. We will update the post once an embedded version becomes available on CMT.

  • Carrie Underwood Doesn’t Limit Charitable Efforts to the US

It was billed as an Ottawa Senators’ fundraiser, but the star of Monday night’s gala at the Hilton Lac-Leamy Convention Centre wasn’t a hockey player. Singer Carrie Underwood, fiancée of Sens star Mike Fisher, stole the spotlight at the 2010 Bell Sens Soirée fundraiser, the hockey club’s premier charity event of the year. The fundraiser was expected to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for four local hospital foundations, Roger’s House, and Rotary Home. It was the first official public event for Underwood, 26, and Fisher, 29, since their engagement on Dec. 21. Underwood, in a demure black dress and sporting the engagement ring that jewelers estimate is worth $150,000, mingled with the players and hundreds of people who nibbled on exotic foods and tried their luck at plenty of carnival games.

Last year, the glitzy event raised $320,000 for charities. The couple briefly served as celebrity dealers at one of the blackjack tables. They were later applauded by the hundreds of guests as they made their splashy, red carpet entrance into the ballroom for dinner. “They’re totally adorable and so down-to-earth,” said Dorothy Jackson, who was at the same dinner table as Fisher and Underwood. Rubbing elbow with the stars didn’t come cheap: Tickets for the event cost $450 for individuals or $4,000 for a table of 10.

In 2006, Bell and the Senators committed to raising $1 million over five years for the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario and Monday’s soirée will help fulfil that goal. Since 1992, the hockey club and the Sens Foundation have raised more than $2.2 million for charity.
